During this episode of Dickens’ Great Expectations, Pip (alias Handel) is trying to protect Magwitch and take him across the river so that Compeyson doesn’t find him. At the beginning of this episode, Pip is on a journey to Clara’s residence in order to meet Magwitch. After arriving at Clara’s home, he is greeted at the door by Herbert who shows Clara’s residence to Pip, while Clara is attending to her father. Pip is then introduced to Clara’s drunk father, Mr. Barley (alias Gruffandgrim) and taken to meet Magwitch. Pip is shocked by his concern for Magwitch’s safety and decides to keep the news of Compeyson’s pursuit of him a secret. Herbert and Pip then decide to escape with Magwitch on the river, at which point Pip rethinks his decision of parting ways with Magwitch and considers staying with him after they escape. As the three of them are ending another day thinking about the escape, Pip keeps a close watch for the dark figure searching for Magwitch.
